Habitat of the ABS
The ABS is usually found in calm water with a relitively shallow depth during low tide. They either latch on to nearby sea grass, seen on the left, or just lay on the the ocean floor. Recently there has been a destruction of sea grass, largely reducing the ABS population.
They range from Cape Cod to the Gulf of Mexico, and are less commonly found in Nova Scotia. In New York, bay scallops are mostly found in the small bays and harbors of Peconic Bay on the eastern end of Long Island.
